Online Design Fundamentals with Sue Giannotti
Are you ready for an online design boot camp to improve the visual impact of your mosaics? Artist Sue Giannotti has created an online version of her in-person workshop for you to learn the principles and elements of art and how to incorporate them to better your mosaic designs. With numerous hands-on exercises, students learn about fundamental design elements (e.g., value and color) and principles (e.g. focal point, rhythm), material selection, looking at/learning from work, and how to build the mosaic cartoon.
While this workshop is especially helpful for representational work, the concepts apply to all types of mosaics. Formatted for those with little or no formal art education, participants can range from beginners to advanced mosaic artists. Instead of making a mosaic during the course, students create a hands-on book with project concepts developed from class exercises and their own mosaic-ready cartoon incorporating concepts from the course.
In this online format, in order to maximize information and minimize zoom-fatigue, we will have a combination of online class lectures, exercises, and discussions, as well as “off-screen” time in which students will complete a variety of projects to reinforce the techniques covered. Students should allow time in their schedule for "offline" homework each evening. To best re-create the in-person quality of education, students will receive individualized, private feedback on their cartoon process. The instructor will contact all registered participants with details on pre-class preparation, webclass link, and materials list.
Enrolling students should have reliable internet access, webcam/microphone, skills to email photos to the instructor, and required art supplies sent in the preparation email.
