Smith Village
“Homes of Beverly and Morgan Park” is a mosaic column created by The Chicago Mosaic School, and Gary Drostle served as lead mosaicist on the project based on a sketch by designer Sarah Lewis.
To provide an enduring symbol of its centennial celebration in 2024 and an expression of its relationship with the community where it is located, Smith Village commissioned The Chicago Mosaic School to create four panels affixed to a five-foot-tall column containing a time capsule placed there on Monday, Aug. 12, 2024.
The panels showcase a wide variety of homes in the neighborhoods surrounding SmithVillage's campus. They include the Givins Castle and the Hopkinson-Platt House, one of Chicago's oldest homes, both built in the 1880s; homes by Frank Lloyd Wright and his protégé Walter Burley Griffin; and a variety of Georgian- and Tudor-style houses, bungalows and raised ranch homes.
