Teaching the Teachers

$25.00

“Teaching the Teachers” is a specialized one-day Mosaic workshop for k-12 Teachers, designed to provide valuable information on art history, materials, and project work for classroom use. This workshop will give art teachers a solid foundation in basic mosaic skills for the classroom.

Participants will attend 2 lectures – The History of Mosaics and Contemporary Mosaics – delivered by renowned artist Alessandro Lugari and by CMS Founder and Creative Director Dr. Karen Ami. The workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of tools and materials and include examples of sustainable substrates for large-scale projects. Attendees will also create two mosaic projects of their own: the first is a basic introduction to materials and adhesives for glass and tile, and the second is a project using stone, Byzantine glass, and ceramic.

This workshop will provide teachers with resources and inspiration to teach and create mosaics with students in the classroom and beyond. The sense of achievement teachers and children feel when they create sustainable art - individually or as part of a community - is immeasurable. Mosaics, when built with knowledge and care, can last decades, and enabling students to return to a work and say they contributed to it can be a meaningful experience.

This offering is supported in part by a grant from the League of Chicago Theatres and ComEd.
