Shadows and Light: Mosaic Jazz Improvisation with Alessandro Lugari - NEW!
The earliest pictorial representations created by humans are silhouettes—forms depicting animals and humans in various poses, dating back a few millennia. In this exciting new three-day workshop presented by Professor Allesandro Lugari, students will play with the relationships between lightness and darkness for a unique improvisational mosaic experience—the essential element for this mosaic project’s success is the rhythms of jazz.
Using a strong light source, shadows will be projected onto a light surface, similar to those in Chinese shadow puppetry. Students will discover how shapes and silhouettes can suggest, recognize and bring an image to the mind. Following the rhythm of the music, participants will create mosaics in shapes formed with the light. This will be a direct-method workshop using stones, rocks, glass, and other materials.
All materials included. No prerequisites.
