Evolution of Mosaic Techniques Over Centuries - NEW!

$900.00

In this exclusive five-day workshop, Professor Alessandro Lugari guides students through a time travel of mosaics. Learn how artisans and artists from different points in history translated mosaics and observe how the mosaic language has evolved over millennia. Using the same image throughout the five days, Professor Lugari leads students in translating a detailed segment from Greek mosaics of the 6th-4th century BC to Byzantine mosaics of the 6th-11th century AD.

This course is designed to be welcoming to students at various levels. The workshop challenges intermediate to advanced students to work on a new style each day, while beginning students can improve their skills by concentrating on one or two pieces at their own pace. All participants will attend daily group lectures on each time period.

The daily schedule includes explanations of new styles with some slides, an overview of the construction methodology for each period, analysis of the techniques used, and the creation of details relevant to each style.

Professor Lugari’s combined historical and technical expertise in mosaics is rare, and we are honored and excited to welcome him back.

All materials included. Prerequisites: Mosaic I and II and Hammer and Hardie (or by special permission).
