From Clay To Mosaics
Working in clay encourages playfulness and can be fun and relaxing to work with. In this class, you will learn the basics of clay and create your own original tesserae/elements can be incorporated into individual personal mosaic work. Clay has a long history as a material used in mosaics. Since 3400bc in the ancient city of Ur ( nowadays Iraq), the use of ceramic materials in mosaic art has given artists the flexibility and opportunity to create their unique tesserae and original handmade elements.
Students will have the opportunity to experiment and explore different textural and detailing methods that can be incorporated into individual mosaic work or stand alone.
Basic glazing, firing and as well as discussion of adhesives and substrates for mosaic application will be covered.
All materials and firings are included. Prerequisite: Mosaic I.
