Translating a Mosaic Across History with Alessandro Lugari - NEW!

$900.00

Join our special guest, Professor Alessandro Lugari, as he takes students through a time travel of mosaics. Learn how artisans and artists at different points in history translated a mosaic and see how the mosaic language has evolved over millennia.

Using the subject across all 5 days, Professor Lugari will lead students through the translation of a detail segment in the time periods beginning with Greek mosaics of VI-IV century BC and concluding with byzantine mosaics of vi-VI century AD.

Designed – and welcoming--for students at many levels. While intermediated-to-advanced skill students will be challenged to work on a new time period style each day, more beginning students can improve their skills by focusing on one or two pieces, depending on their working pace. All students will participate in the daily group lectures regarding each time period.

Professor Lugari’s combined historical and technical knowledge of mosaic is rare, and we are honored and excited to have him join us again.

Prerequisites: Mosaic I and II and Hammer and Hardie (or by special permission).
